Ready or not…
A house full of laughter, family and good friends is all the decoration anyone really needs.
Feel the crisp air? Smell the wonderful holiday scents? Do you delight in the colorful leaves and fresh fallen snow? Can you taste the pumpkin, apple and cranberry flavors? A new season has approached with its many festivals, family gatherings and holiday parties. Get ready for all of them, whether hitting the road or hosting the guests, these steps will assist you and your home in being holiday ready.
Make your home inviting and merry
Arrange cozy spaces with music, greenery and ambient lighting for people to sit and visit. Encourage party mingling by having food in several places—appetizers in the living room, small buffet in kitchen, coffee/desserts in dining room, etc. Have guests make their own drinks with a self-serve bar.
Keep the food simple and casual
Create an enjoyable menu with make ahead or catered appetizers and sweets that are able to sit out at room temperatures and don’t require reheating. Also take into consideration easy to eat, whether seated or standing.
Prepare guest rooms
Provide fresh linens, thoroughly dust and vacuum, open up closet space with available hangers and a few extra essential travel amenities are always appreciated. Provide a good bedside book or magazine as a gift. Research local festivities such as concerts, carnivals, events, or holiday light displays for attendance with guests.
Clean and declutter
If carpet, tile or windows are looking dingy now is the time to get them cleaned. Have your HVAC system checked as you prep for winter. Consider donating unwanted items to local organizations or shelters that could use your unworn or unused items especially this time of year.
Spruce up entryways
Have walkways and porches free of leaves, ice and snow. Make sure all outdoor lighting is functioning properly and set up holiday displays with timers.
The most important thing for this new season is to set the tone by taking a deep breath and remember the holidays are a combination of colder weather, wonder, and joy. A house full of laughter, family and good friends is all the decoration anyone really needs. It really is the most wonderful time of year!
